From 24th through the 27th of June, members from Team Education embarked on a mission: to pitch UL Xplorlabs to the thousands of attendees at the 2018 ISTE Conference, which was held at McCormick Place on Chicago’s south side.

Hosted annually by the International Society for Technology in Education, the ISTE conference brings together hundreds of students, teachers, speakers, principals, STEM coordinators, science coaches, and the best and brightest minds in the world of edtech, in an effort to join a growing network of educators who want to be at the forefront of science education and technology.

Having participated in this event in 2017 as booth exhibitors for Xplorlabs, the team was eager to participate in the ISTE Conference again this year – with the added challenge of gaining more educator leads than had been previously collected. As the first major event in which the team participated since the USA Science and Engineering Festival earlier this year, the small team was ready for any crowd that was coming their way.

Event exhibitor veterans Helen and Dennis (and a little later, Deepa) quickly started talking to educators as soon as the hall opened to the hundreds of teachers who eagerly waited to collect quality “goodies” for their students. Interns Kevin and Katie learned the ropes very quickly, and within a matter of a few hours the 5-person team transformed from knowledgeable staff to an Xplorlabs machine! They were approached by science teachers from around the country, and even students from around the world. While the students learned of the internal components of lithium-ion batteries and the inside of a hoverboard, the educators who stopped by the booth were drawn to the 2 modules offered to them, particularly Fire Forensics: Claims and Evidence.

In the end, the exhausted team registered over 300 attendees to join the Xplorlabs community. Though their journey was not too far this time, they returned triumphant and eagerly awaiting the next Xplorlabs booth experience!
