UL participated as the official sponsor of the 20th Korea Intelligent Robot Competition held in Pohang from Dec 7 to 9 and awarded the Safety Industrial Awards’ to robotics entries that conformed to safety standards.
The UL Industry Safety Award is a special feature in the intelligent robot sector that evaluates creative robot technology, and the UL engineers participated as judges for the professional evaluation. Three teams were selected as winners, based on whether certified parts and specifications were used on their robots. Each team presented designs with a strong emphasis on safety through standards for robot mechanism, battery usage, and structural design.
UL Korea and the Education & Outreach team have been sponsoring the Korea Intelligent Robot Contest for twelve consecutive years since 2007, to fulfill the company’s mission of ‘Working for a Safer World’ and to contribute to the growth of the robot industry. UL, a strong supporter of STEM Education, supports this competition because of the impact it has on participants to engage more students in STEM through robotics. Each year, many UL Korea employees participate in this competition as mentors and judges hosted by Korea Institute of Robot and Convergence, and the governments of North Gyeongsang Province and Pohang City, total 55 teams, 274 participants who passed the preliminary contest went on to the finals in 2018.
2018 Pohang Science Festival is an event that integrates the 20th Korea Intelligent Robot Competition, the 15th Pohang Family Science Festival, the 4th POSTECH(Pohang University of Science and Technology) Open Space Academy, and the 2018 Pohang Drone Festival brought in about 40,000 participants over the weekend.
