With safety as the core concept and the motivational factor behind our work, UL’s expertise in high-level engineering enables crucial contributions towards ensuring the safety and welfare of the world’s growing population. From technological change and urban growth to increasingly devastating extreme weather, the planet is changing at an incredible rate. Considering the scope and scale of these problems, engineering must make crucial contributions to ensuring the safety and welfare of the world’s population. Our focus is to develop the next generation of engineers to help tackle these complex challenges.

Proper engineering identifies and solves complex issues and keeps us safe in the environments that we build, the devices we use, and the materials that surround us. From its inception, UL is an engineer-driven organization whose focus is to use rigorous science and methodologies to test our built environment, the technologies we use, and the materials surrounding us, to ensure our safety. UL Education and Outreach deeply embeds the core concepts and principles of engineering and design into almost every program we develop, and we commit to inspiring a new generation of engineers to help tackle the world’s most pressing challenges.
