The rise of the internet and interconnected intelligent technologies poses safety and security threats that are critically important for governments, businesses, and for the over 3.5 billion people who are online every day. In the next several years, it is estimated that over 12 billion machine-to-machine devices will connect to the internet. This interconnectivity brings with it a wide range of risks, including identity theft and cyber attacks.

Nearly 1.3 million people are killed, with an additional 20 to 50 million remaining critically injured or permanently disabled, from road crashes every year. With growing urbanization worldwide and the ever-increasing demand for road transportation, Road Safety and Transportation involves diverse stakeholders to improve safety outcomes. Education and Outreach adopts evidence-based, multi-level interventions that focus on preventive strategies which enable large-scale impact.

We make considerable efforts to protect ourselves from a variety of hazards. Moreover, the concept of safety is evolving, and therefore the need to address these threats through science and discovery is expanding. The 21st century opened new areas of focus on human health and wellbeing as many scientists, engineers and researchers explore the effects of our surroundings - what we eat, breathe, touch and drink - and how they may affect our bodies.

UL’s brand protection initiatives help safeguard and maintain the integrity of the UL Marks. This work keeps potentially hazardous counterfeit products out of the stream of commerce and helps protect people, products, and places. A longstanding partnership between UL and INTERPOL resulted in the formation of the International IP Crime Investigators College. The IIPCIC is the premier training center for global law enforcement, regulatory authorities and private sector investigators to receive the critical knowledge needed to combat current and emerging threats from IP Crime. More on this significant resource coming soon.
