A guide to creating Design Squad clubs at schools; educators run the club and collaborate with international partners. In Design Squad Global (DSG) clubs, kids explore engineering and invention through fun-packed, high-energy, hands-on activities, such as designing and building an emergency shelter or a wind power station. Through DSG, students also get a unique opportunity: the chance to work alongside a partner club from another country. Partner clubs share their experiences by exchanging design ideas, photos, and videos. Along the way, they develop their global competence by learning more about each other’s cultures, communities, and lives.

This activity is your guide to create a solar oven that can be used to bake cookies outdoors. GreenLearning Canada hosts this delectable renewable energy challenge for Canadian classes every year which, challenges participants to build, test, and bake with solar ovens. Students use the solar oven construction plan provided by re-energy.ca, or they design their own plans. Teachers register their classes—which in the past have ranged from grades 3 through 12, and from science classes to environmental clubs—to be eligible to win prizes and certificates.
